I Riksmaten ungdom deltog drygt 3 000 ungdomar i årskurs 5, 8 och årskurs 2 på gymnasiet. De registrerade vad de åt och drack, och svarade på en enkät om levnadsvanor. Drygt 1 000 elever lämnade också blod- och urinprov.
Utifrån resultaten har Livsmedelsverket analyserat hur mycket av olika livsmedel ungdomarna äter, hur mycket näring de får i sig, hur mycket de rör på sig och om de får i sig skadliga ämnen från maten. Ett antal fördjupade analyser har också gjorts, en del i samarbete med andra forskare.
